İstanbul based art collective and independent street-couture brand Kop-Art, is engrossed with clothing, graphics/video-art visuals, installations & p(art)y performances. At the very beginning (2000), Kop-Art was just a fantasy inspired by a fight between an iconic actress and a well known artist. Gamze Fidan and Cansu Aybar boosted a rebel against modernist-elitist roots of art by a comic strip called Kop-Art. Since that day, its basic principle is to bring a campy gusto integrated with a conceptual background. After years of activism with a motto of ‘art for nothing’ at the streets-clubs-galleries, Kop-Art managed to open its unique street-couture store Al Sana! at İstanbul at 2006. The space already launched four installations and miscellaneous unique clothing pieces since then.
Kop-artists believe in interaction and up-cycling. In creation, their way is pretty trashy and multi-level, recognizing no obstacles between art and life. Kop-Art’s anarchistic attitude against ordinary ‘good taste’ is present in every item created as well as its introduction to people.
